As time passes and our everyday hectic schedules consume us, the last thing we are thinking about are our toothbrushes. Yes of course we come in contact with it a couple times in a day, but are we really giving it any serious thought and the condition of it? Here are a couple things you should absolutely never do with your toothbrush as well as some oh no-no's on where to leave it...
Separate. Making sure to keep your toothbrush separate from your roommate, significant other or family makes all the difference. Toothbrushes harbor an insane amount of bacteria which can lead to cross-contamination if kept together; they should always be kept at least an inch apart and somewhere free of germs. Most everyone leaves their toothbrushes around the bathroom sink or even in the shower, but if you have your toothbrush anywhere near the toilet make sure to keep it covered. When you flush your toilet many particles fill the air with what is in your toilet and therefore leaving you brushing your teeth with your toilet water. Also, make sure to keep your toothbrush clear of children to reduce the risk of your toothbrush becoming dipped in the toilet or even chewed to death.
Replace. When it comes to regularly changing your toothbrush out for a new one, do not delay this step. It is recommended to replace your toothbrush every three months, but if you brush your teeth often and with force, the sooner the better. The bristles will wear down sooner and faster if you do this. It is also strongly recommended to replace your toothbrush after being ill due to germs still lingering which poses a risk of becoming sick all over again.
