It's hard to believe anything on the internet these days or even the most credible sources, especially when there are so many different assumptions on every and any topic. Unfortunately, this is the case when it comes to dentistry as well, and here are a few dental myths that are definitely health hoaxes...
Bad Breath=Bad Hygiene. Poor dental hygiene can definitely contribute to having bad breath, however it’s not the only reason for halitosis kicking in. There are plenty of reasons that culprit bad breath, some include: medication, an illness, dehydration and the foods we eat. Sometimes depending on what it is, no matter how many times you brush your teeth and/or floss, bad breath will still with you.
Sugar Causes Tooth Decay. Sugar too is not the only culprit for ruining those pearly whites. They certainly speed up the process of cavities and rotting teeth, but it’s not the absolute number one cause. Also, be careful when discussing this with your children once Halloween and Easter comes around J
Whitening Strips Weaken Enamel. Most any of the products on the market which are labeled to help whiten teeth are considered safe. Bleaching products if used correctly are completely harmless to the enamel on your teeth. Too much bleaching, on the other hand, can cause some short-term gum sensitivity or temperature sensitivity to your teeth, but it does not at all weaken or strip your enamel.
The Dentist is Scary. Many people for years and years have believed that going to the dentist is the most painful doctor visit out there. This is such a sad and false presumption that could never be more incorrect. With new technology and enhanced developments in analgesics and anesthetics, we want to ensure everyone that your visit with Dr. Johnson will be comfortable and care free.
