Halitosis, better known as bad breath, can stricken you in any situation especially social. As embarrassing and uncomfortable as it really is, bad breath can also be a deal breaker for that perfect job you wanted or potential love interest. And the cherry on top of it all is that our bodies manage to block out unwanted constant smells in turn making it harder to determine bad breath before the timer runs out.
What causes Bad Breath?
Dry Mouth. The presence of saliva plays the main role in washing away bacteria from your mouth and keeping your acid levels on point. If you have frequent dry mouth, make sure to hydrate with water before the bacteria takes over. Medication can also be the culprit in dry mouth so make sure if you are taking any, to consult with your doctor to see if this is a common side effect.
Hygiene. This is the most common cause of bad breath. If you have a dirty mouth full of bacteria, odors form and collect on your tongue absorbing particles from food, smoke, or anything else you put in your mouth. The best and most effective way to end this is making sure to brush your teeth multiple times daily as well as FLOSS!
Food. Certain types of food cause bad breath. No matter what you do sometimes it is inevitable to avoid the side effect of eating. There are foods that are obviously worse than others, but as long as you keep with your hygiene routine there is nothing to worry about.
Illnesses. Having unusual bad breath can be warning signs for something else potentially serious. Of course, accompanied by other symptoms, unexplainable bad breath can be signs of an infection or a variety of chronic diseases. If you believe that your bad breath is not linked to any of the previous explanations, consult with your doctor to learn more about what could be causing it.
